My first baby

Post  MarcyOne on Fri Oct 16, 2009 9:05 pm

It hurt at first and was hard to do. but i was told that the first 4-8 weeks are the toughest,
and once you're past that point, then it gets easier. i toughed it out and it did. the key to
minimal or no pain at all is proper latch. make sure if your baby isn't latching on properly that you get
help so you don't go through unnecessary pain! also, no one in my family breastfed.

I had no real support except for my husband...so i read and read all i could and the reading about the benefits
of breast feeding only served to reaffirm me all the more that i was making the right choice for my dd.
we ended up nursing till she self weaned at 15 months. now with ds everything's different - nursing has been pain
free because i know a good latch from a bad latch and could fix the problems right away. and with dd i woke up
nights to feed her but learned really quickly that i was too tired in the mornings because i'd been up all night feeding...

so with ds he goes down into the cradle at first, then for the first feeding he comes to bed and nurses while i
sleep and stays with me till the morning. a completely different way to handle it - and so much more efficient
and easy for me! i get to sleep, he gets to eat, and we're all well rested and happy. Smile oh yeah - and like Jamie
said, don't let anyone tell you that your baby needs formula for this or that. you'll know by the wet/poopy diapers
if (s)he is getting enough. and if so, then there's no need at all to introduce formula into their perfect little
tummies - it just upsets the balance of things.
